Inspiration
40th Anniversary
A letter from the President
A truly inspirational journey. I was discouraged in high school. “You’ll never make it.” I was blessed with a great family and determination. By working multiple jobs, etc., I attained my private pilot’s license on my 17th birthday. Thereafter, it was early January 1985. I was a junior at Lewis University while instructing as their Chief Pilot. I was interested in building an aircraft charter and management company. My idea was simple. Aviation service business. We would specialize in management that included pilots, maintenance, administration, and sales. Advice from all the experts, was once again, “You’ll never make it.”
We started by leasing one Beechcraft Baron 58. More than a year later, on April 11, 1986, I completed my first FAR 135 check and the Air Carrier Certificate and operations specifications were issued by the Federal Aviation Administration. The early years were tough. Our unique transparency attracted greater attention. Within 5 years we had secured 15 aircraft and expanded. The business evolved to include consulting, aircraft modifications, completions, and global flight operations. After attaining FAR 121, followed by FAR 125, our customers have included companies, professional sports teams, etc. Operating several Boeing 767-300ER’s at 100%.
A divine spirit among us. This story is not just about hard work and public accomplishments. The greatest moments have been helping those we serve along with many unseen. Of course it is all about the customer. Equally important has been learning how collaboration within our industry has greatly impacted those around us. In my case, from helping a janitor while he took care of his sick family, to teaching pilots, followed by offering jobs to some who had no home.
A favorite story. I was the captain, flying a high-profile MLB team. After a long stormy day and some mental gymnastics, we arrived on time. It was raining as the team departed. A less fortunate person and his son were waiting and asked to speak with the captain. Why? The father had explained it had always been his dream to be a pilot and asked how I made it? I stopped and shared how my high school counselor discouraged me. They listened intently. I gave them caps and his son an inaugural team ball. The next day the entire family, grandparents, cousins, showed up, in tears, to thank me for providing a sign that dreams do come true.
I thank God for our success! There is no better explanation. I ask for his help, and yours, as we pursue new customers, aircraft, projects, etc. This underdog journey continues. For those who are blessed to work in aviation I ask that you join me to promote safety and help recruit people of all ages. Take a moment to watch and listen. If you are as lucky as I have been then you will discover a great gift. Inspiration.
Sincerely,
Lincoln Francis
